Firefly Logic, Microsoft Bring Technology to CMA Fest

NASHVILLE – (June 29, 2009) – Nashville’s Firefly Logic partnered with Microsoft to bring an interactive spark to the 2009 CMA Festival, held June 11-14 in Nashville. Firefly and Microsoft launched two fun, Web-based tools to help fans share their experiences during and after the annual event, which drew more than 56,000 country music fans per day.

“Be This Close” is an interactive Web page showcasing more than 850 photos of this year’s festival and past festivals – artist performances, fan experiences and all things CMA Fest. While the festival was in full gear, fans participated in a “Be This Close” scavenger hunt, where they won prizes for locating certain items in the web page’s large, interactive photo collage.

Another tool, “Hotshots,” allowed CMA Fest fans to point, click and instantly share their festival photos using a mobile e-mail account, a Window Mobile account or a simple Web-based uploading tool. By creating an account, users could “follow” other fans’ photostreams, share their own and come back often to find new photos of their favorite artists.

“Taking pictures is as important to the CMA Fest experience as listening to music,” said Ben Henderson of Firefly Logic. “We loved helping fans exchange photos and take a peek at each other’s experiences, and the scavenger hunt made it even more fun. We’re grateful to Microsoft for helping us make it happen – and to the CMA Fest for inviting us to be part of the action.”

For both “Be This Close” and “Hotshots,” Firefly used Microsoft’s Silverlight Deep Zoom, which allows viewers to view hundreds of images and zoom in with crisp, high-resolution detail in seconds.
